Title: Story walkthroughs
Post by: Karsten75 on May 17, 2011, 01:32:43 PM
Hi everyone. :) I've been away for some time. stuff (cough... cough... Gemcraft Labyrinth (http://armorgames.com/play/10317/gemcraft-labyrinth)) got in the way. Amongst other things.

However I've started making a few videos of the more advanced levels of the story line and the Bonus missions.

Here is what I got thus far: I'll add more as time permits:

Story

Bonus missions

Nice. I would say though that being able to hear you hit the space bar all the time is a little distracting. Can't you just record the game sound?

Also, the sound seems to be out of sync too.

But yeah, anyway, good videos.

I can hear the TV in the background as well, but I do like the birds singing outside! ;)

Tip for Emmote: mute your sound while watching. :P

Hmm - there was sound? I usually can't record sound, but I'll look into it. Thanks for the heads-up.

TV, I don't think so. :)

Edit: I checked my sound settings and indeed the Mic was live. I'll remix those videos to remove the sound.  Sorry for that. Mostly I have sound on earphones that I don't wear, since I don't really listen to much. Sometimes it catches me like in this instance.

Edit 2: For now I used a YouTube feature called Audio Swap to overlay the soundtracks. That is in progress, I'll check later to see how it works out.

Good luck with AudioSwap, it's very buggy.

I had to swap a video 10 times to get it to work.

Yes, it did say there was an error, but they all show that it is "in progress." I'll leave it for a while to see what happens and then if it fails, delete those videos and upload better ones.

Just added Day 17 - Trickery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ib1Rs_17pI). Pretty good score if I may say so myself. :)

Sorry it took so long, I had trouble with the video format.
Also, you may notice my account name has changed, that is because I forgot the password to my old account so I had to make a new one. But I assure you, they are both me.

You lost the password? Hmmm, all that work, 70+ videos and you can't even access it anymore? What a waste. Are you sure it isn't still stored by any of your browsers or saved somewhere? Always better to check, and if that fails, there is a link on the login page for when you fail to recall your password built specifically for that purpose. Don't tell me you lost access to your e-mail...

I lost the password for the email, not the youtube account, and youtube won't log me back in without my email login first.

For day 16 I'd like to point out that you don't actually need to build repulsors so early (in fact I didn't use them at all for that area, but if you're playing it safe they're fine) - you can just replace the shield wall one layer lower whenever it's about to break, this lets you build up energy a lot faster early game.

I love the sped up music in the game, makes it sound fun.
I will do day 12 next.

I found someone who did day 20 already, maybe you want to add his video?

I recorded myself when i went through the story and uploaded them to YouTube. I am sure they aren't the best times for each level but this is just how I go about fighting the creeper.

Here is a YouTube playlist with them. you can add some of the ones to your list that you don't feel like doing.

Just created a playlist of myself doing the bonus missions

You can use these if you want not an issue with me. I think on a few of them came up with some clever solutions.

Guys, keep this on-topic for video walkthroughs, and not  just one-shot advice deals. I'm moving two posts to the relevant day (if I can find it).

Of course GCL would get in the way, it takes like a week of continuous playing to beat, the unpremium part, lol. well, nice vids.

I just played and recorded Story 10 because I saw it wasn't on the list, but then I saw Mare post it on page 2, so I don't know if you'll want to use it or not.

But here it is anyways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsLnxwPMq2s

Actually, Yours is faster than mine, but thats because I usually want to play it on the hardest difficulty possible. In a way, your vid is better. Good job!!!

What's the use of playing the hardest way possible when recording a video as a walkthrough for others?

To show them how to get through it, think of it as training. If you beat it on harder difficulty, then lower difficulty levels should be easy for you.
BTW, When I record, I don't always play on the hardest difficulty, sometimes I'm too lazy so I just play it normally.

If anyone is interested I've uploaded one of day 20 without using any crystals. While it isn't a walkthrough exactly (unless you really want to pause a completely absurd number of times), it can show some of the strategies that can be useful on day 20. At the end I was a little sloppy, I opened the front door to the chamber a few seconds too early each time (I was supposed to let all the drones go to the left before opening it), and I probably shouldve built the dark beams a bit farther back, but I wasn't being particularly careful because I knew I could save/load.

Nicely Done Kithros...but that's a heck of a lot of work  :P  Although, finding new challanges in the game as offered (UNTIL the map editor is available) is a laudable task.  Based on what I've seen of your posts and your You Tube offerings I'm betting you'll come up with some interesting challanges of your own.

Phenomenal. What I admire is the self-discipline required to throttle your building activities to the extent that you never dip into the existing pool of resources.

for when you make the video on day 20, consider using about 8 makers in the room with the nexus and 1 maker at the top (vacuuming to fuel the other makers).  This will keep all the drones closer to the nexus, then you can just use nulifiers on the emitters.  By doing this, I finished in just over 16 minutes.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but there are people who completed it in 2 mins legitly. Your tips are helpful (In fact I never considered using AC in the nexus room) and we thank you for your help. Please refrain from reviving threads and topics from months ago. Look at the date from the last post in the thread to see if its old or new. Not trying to be mean or anything but people are usually too oblivious to notice they are reviving old threads pointlessly.

I think it might be helpful to also have text walkthroughs, here's one I wrote for day 16:
Quote from: 2b3o4o on January 29, 2012, 10:00:02 AM
First of all, remember to pause a lot since this is a timed map. First, dig through that narrow bar of terrain, next, build a wall of shields to replace it, try to do these things while the liberation ship is in motion. Grab a crystal and start building reactors, when you get low on crystals, grab the rest, remember to replace shields when they get low. Try to have five repulsers and enough reactors to support them by the time the third shield wall collapses, and feel free to build stuff near the creeper below you, it isn't a threat until you make it one. Try to get a mortar and later a couple blasters to destroy that creeper on top.

After that is the frozen creeper, for this you should have at-least nine blasters and two mortars, I don't think I have to explain beyond that...

Now we have relatively uninteresting fields to deal with, my only suggestions are to attack both ways at the same time, make sure your mortars are close enough to do some damage, and try to do this as quickly as possible since your weapons will likely take lots of damage.

This last part isn't as hard as it looks, the creeper does block your packets, but you can fix that by building a micro-rift in each pocket of free space, other than that this part should be pretty easy.
I hope this helped...
