GREAT GAME. Really good, and I like how you returned to the basic top down concept, which we really like. It feels a lot more finished and a lot of the annoying quirks (e.g. time, emitters, general HUD) have been solved. But, the biggest problem is the fact that there is no help menu. I always have to go find a video and watch it on the forge or something, and I lose like 15 minutes when I could be playing a this great game. Please implement the help menu. Apart form that thought, great job and well done

Noticed a spelling error at http://knucklecracker.com/common/buy.php

In the Creeper World 1 bit: desparate
Is that supposed to be disparate or desperate?
Either way, it’s going to put people off buying the game if they think you can’t spell.

I kinda get your point. I paid with paypal, paypal kindly told me how many euros 14.95 (is that it, right ?) dollars made in euros… and next, it announced me the total sum to pay would amount to, after conversion, something like 17.8 US$

        Me : wut ?

I still paid, but I can’t help thinking paypal made a whoppingly massive commission on my purchase, this time.

    2. Bingeling
      Bingeling October 5, 2013 at 3:19 am |

Not knowing exactly what you see…

Dollars are less expensive than euro, about 11 euro and 15 dollar seems to be the rate today. From what I noticed, I was given a price in the local currency, but it said that it would charge my card in dollars. The only relevant thing here, is that the exchange rate won’t be exactly the same as displayed, it could be a bit higher and lower, depending on your bank’s exchange rates and the exact time of the transaction.

It is usually better to be charged in the “original” currency, as “stores” doing the conversion usually give worse exchange rates than banks.

Grrr… Creeper World 3 gets released, I want to buy it, but I have no 15 $ because all my money is cash and not online available. More waiting while everyone else is playing this game. -_-
Who cares about new “tripe A title” like Battlefield 4, if you can get games like CW3 for one forth of the money?

What about copy protection? Has CW3 some kind like DRM bullshit? “After 3 installations you have to call this number to activate your game again”, “always-on internet connection” or something like this?

    Thank you Virgil !

    Bought it.

I hope you take it as a comment, for nerds like me, I couldn’t give a copulation about the release of Grand Theft Auto, while I was more than eagerly waiting for Creeper World III, haha ^^

I’m still posting constructive feedback, unless I’m told this isn’t taken into account, I hope this is of some help, possibly :

    – no way to close the Menu window with an Escape hit, seriously ? Really gotta click that upper-right cross ? And no way to enlarge the window to browse more easily the keyboard shortcuts submenu ?

    – Any way we could delete our progression through the scenario and start from scratch ?

    – To combine mouse and commands, the ideal solution for me would be to have a single right click do a “cancel”, while a right-click followed by a mouse movement do a “sroll the map up/down/left/right”

    – We definitely need a confirmation we’ve successfully saved our game when we do a control-C

And the rest, another day, sleep is calling me ^^ Thanks for the game !

    2. Garnasha
      Garnasha October 23, 2013 at 3:51 am |

NIce list. I’d like to add a point: Currently, left click with a unit selected works as a deselect, even when you have a selectable unit under the cursor (unless you hold shift or whatever modifier you set for multiselection). Could an option be added “single click reselection” which processes a single left click as both a deselect and a select? Speeds up instruction spam by a factor 2 πŸ˜› (Yeah, I should also just get used to multiselect, but that only works if you want to give all units the same instruction)

      1. Garnasha
        Garnasha October 23, 2013 at 4:14 am |

Never mind, just retested. It already works like that, except for weapons under construction (completed weapons don’t deselect but try to move).

I expected the game to be about $25. Then the trilogy was $25. So I bought all three! (Also, I felt like I owed V to buy it because I kindasortamaybeaccidentallyonpurpose pirated a key for CW2 about a month ago.)

        1. Mike
          Mike October 5, 2013 at 2:46 pm |

inb4 people go a little wild on me: I realize V’s an indie developer and piracy hurts. I entered the key because it was right there, and I wanted to try the game. It was a selfish move. When I became hooked, I promised myself I’d buy the game when 3 arrived. And I did.

So, one of the empires sealed of rift space to try and stop the creeper? Interesting way to fit the landlines into the storyline.
The Demo is awesome. Hopefully the full game will be better. I will most likely get it tomorrow.
For those with doubts, try the demo. It is freaking awesome. My only problem is that they got rid of the blaster. How could you take away the blaster. All it did was help you CRUSH THE CREEPER in games 1 & 2. But I suppose, the blaster was old technology. Whatever. Awesome game.

    Dear Virgil,

I love your games and SO want to throw money into your face.

Your payment provider won’t let me though.
German IP + German Credit Card + German Address = fail
Spanish IP + German Credit Card + German Address = fail
Spanish IP + Spanish Credit Card + German Address = fail
Spanish IP + Spanish Credit Card + Spanish Address = fail
Spanish IP + Paypal + German Address = fail
Spanish IP + Paypal + Spanish Address = fail
German IP + Paypal + German Address = fail
(All tests on Chrome + Opera and two different machines – really want to play N O W)
So… A bit xenophobic? Euros suck? Virgil is getting to much money anyway? Your payment provider doesn’t want me to spend october on CW3? Stopping me from giving you money doesn’t seem like a sensible thing and failing without providing a reason (paypal did mail me “payment authorised” messages, so it’s probably not me) – way to frustrate customers!

Dear Virgil, please have a payment provider that is at least 1% as awesome as you are!

Yeeeeeeessssss! πŸ™‚ I have been waiting for this for what feels like forever. I like how it joins the top-down view of CW1 with the ability to nullify the emitters from CW2. Then there’s a whole bunch of new stuff to play around with.
The little graphics (like the puff of dust when the Command Node lands and the emitter’s “breathing”) just make it all the more fun to play. Thank. You. TONS! It was definitely worth the wait.

    Feedbacking…

A fleeting impression : did I really see drones lift off from a station right next to a max-height terracrafted wall and immediably pass above the wall ? Realistically, there should be, maybe, an animation to tell they’re gaining height ? Or else, lifting off and starting in a direction opposite to the wall, then turning round ?

This thought about wall heights bugs me. If we have a mortar shooting its pellets above a super-high wall, its pellets should cover a shorter horizontal distance, since part of the launching energy was spent throwing the item upwards, instead of using a lower curve….

On a fantasy note, may I leave a suggestion for Creeper World 4 : 3Dify your game. Like we do with a Google Earth program view, when we suddenly find the keyboard/mouse trick to make it “not fully seen from the above” πŸ˜‰

A couple quick experience thoughts, delete at will. Not to sound ungrateful, I mean this as constructive criticism.
    1) The initial price seems too low, leaving little room for discounting later on steam or bundled or whatever, etc.
    2) The purchase page seems too intrusive requiring a lot of personal information to buy a $15 game, even through paypal which has my phone number and address, etc.
    3) Why didn’t I get a release notice? I purchased both 1 and 2 separately, have commented on the blog in the past and have used the forum in the past. Where is the marketing push? Popup have my email, why did I have to come to you?
    4) I suppose I’ll stop complaining now and go play the game.

    1. Garnasha
      Garnasha October 22, 2013 at 4:40 pm |

On point 1: Agreed, it’s a low price for a good game, although it could be higher because the game is that good, NOT because there should be possibilities for discount stunts. And even though it’s a great game maybe he figured he’d make more money this way? Lower price means more copies sold, etc… While we blog-readers and forum-goers know the game well enough to pay a lot more, I doubt we’re the bulk of his income.
Or maybe Virgil is just being nice and set the price to make us happy? I know this price makes me happy.

Agreed so much on point 2. Fastspring does not NEED to know that about me. Not if their payment options are reasonably secure.

Agreed on 3, is there a mailing list I should’ve been on?

      Amen to 4. Playtime!

More feedback as I can play πŸ™‚

    – We REALLY need to be able to see the coverage zones of all of the devices of the type we’re about to plant.
Example, my first map with Shield technology. I’ve put one here, one there, another here… And to hell if I am now able to find spots not covered yet. Ideally, as soon as I click the Shield icon in order to put a new Shield on the map, we’d get the areas around the already installed shields highlighted.
I mean, when they are set and active, we see their coverage. But not when we set them up.

    – The same remark goes for Terps, in terraforming mode it would be useful to be shown the coverage area of the Terps..

      And beams!!

With some of the spores in levels and given the vast size of the maps it’s really difficult to figure out spore coverage…. also given the size of the maps it’s hard to tell where/when a spore hits!

I have an idea for one of the updates. You know how when you have everything selected, and press M to keep everything in the same formation as they move? Well. how about when anyone is placing multiple weapons at once, they can press M to space out the weapons depending on their range (just like the collectors and relays are setup)

  80. Ordinaryman

Two years was an awful long time to wait for such a tiny game. I finished it in a day. Luckily, you put a bunch of random maps in it, and gave us a way to make our own maps. $15 was too much. I hope there will be expansions to the story or something, because right now, I’m feeling betrayed.

On the good side, I have found no bugs, glitches, etc…. so the workmanship is top-notch. Maybe I’ll feel better once people start posting maps online…. tho you should be at least a little ashamed, taking so long for a small game, then coasting on the glory brought to it by the end users.

Overall, My opinion of you, Mr. Wall, is very high. You’ve brought us a story that is unique. You’ve given us a game that is unique. You obviously have more talent in your little finger than all the programmers working for other companies. I’m certain whatever work you decide to do now, it will be as good as or better than your former work. You have given both me, and my son, endless hours of entertainment, and with that in mind, I retract my complaint about the price. The thanks goes partly to you, and mostly to the people that come after, who will make diabolical maps for me to enjoy.

I suspect there will be years of entertainment from your game, and I thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Ordinaryman

      ~~ October 7, 2013 at 8:47 am |

If you don’t enjoy the massive replayability of the game and only hoped for a long story (which is there just to be there really) then you shouldn’t have bought it.

      Also, I wouldn’t call a ~6 hour story “short”.

    3. Kharnellius
      Kharnellius October 7, 2013 at 3:26 pm |

Umm, what? You have no idea how much effort it takes to make a game especially by yourself. Plus he made the DMD random map generator that will give you billions of maps. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to make a map generator that isn’t crap? Very!!!

$15 is too much for this? Hardly. You can spend that amount in a mediocre restaurant without even trying and you only get maybe an hour of entertainment.

Even thought I already own CW 1 & 2 I bought the complete tirlogy, just to support you. After playing the main story and taken a look a the first few mission worlds I feel no regrets in doing so!

The story was interesting and had some nice twist in it. I especially enjoied the final mission, both story wise and gameplay wise both ends where realy fun! Overal, playing playing the main story mission holds more content than the story of many of those new AAA titles that come out nowadays. I also realy liked what you did with the credits too, had so much fun there =)

The alternate ends also (booth) fit very well with the general story theme of the game and taken how the whole story turns out there could be a infinite number of sequels – and I hope there will be some in the future.

The few mission worlds I played or took a look at so far displayed a great varity of difficult levels which is realy nice – and good lord… there are so many of those, it will take a while to clear all of them xD

Then there is also the DMD generating infinite maps to enjoy… As well as a map browser for soon to come community maps… This game may not have a multiplayer, but it still dosn’t fall short in its potential when it comes to replayability.

    So, to sum things up:

THANK YOU VIRGILW FOR MAKING AN AWSOME GAME!

I see why it took so long to do, although to be honest, it felt kind of underwhelming after the struggle/panic that was Farbor. I had three minutes left and probably an elevated pulse.

I think it is because of the maps. All of the maps are always the same size, and the emitters are always together. Not only that, but in evermore, the terrain isn’t so patchy. A player can essentially build wherever unlike CW3.

    1. Relli
      Relli October 11, 2013 at 9:47 am |

Well, without seeing the mission you’re having trouble with, all I can give you is generic advice. But at least that way, you’ll be able to use it on all missions, not just this one.
To survive against the creeper, you need to push it back as hard as it pushes forward. So you need weapons enough to do that. Whether it’s Mortars on creeper pools, or Pulse Cannons on an open field, you need to be able to power these weapons, which is where collectors and reactors come in. You need enough energy to hold steady, and preferably enough that you can also build other buildings as well. Like more reactors, which can power more weapons, which can start to push the creeper back, take back more land, and build more reactors. And so on in that fashion, until every map is beaten.
If that isn’t enough for a certain mission, then it’s time to start pulling out advanced tactics. If you have too little space to work up energy, but you have access to totems, you can mass-upgrade your energy from the Forge, making up the difference. If you can’t seem to hold the creeper back well enough, make a shield instead of a weapon, or build a Terp and create a max-height wall around your base. Then just employ a couple mortars to keep the creeper from sloshing over. Sometimes, the most damage can be done on creeper not quite close enough to hit with mortars. In that case, employ Strafers or Bombers to reach those places.
And that’s all I can come up with just now. I hope SOMETHING in that mess helps you out. Good luck to you, and whoever else reads this.

      1. me_me_me
        me_me_me October 12, 2013 at 12:21 pm |

I can’t remember the missions I had to do this on but there was one or two missions that instead of making a wall it worked better to get a mortar and make a pit in front of my weapons because without it my weapons would get overrun since blasters and sprayers can’t fire over walls ofc. Also for starting out use sprayers as much as you can without going into an AC deficit. Since they don’t use energy they are very good for starting hard missions.

I was hoping this was just my computer, but there seems to be a major bug in this game. After a random interval of time, the game completely crashes my computer. It even puts my monitor into sleep mode! When I reset my computer, Norton Autofix popped up with a message. The reason of the crash was “Product Service Dependency”. This has only happened twice, but I don’t want it to continue happening. Is this happening to anyone else? Did you already know of this bug Virgilw, and will you fix it? I can’t guarantee it is this game, but I have had this computer for about 2-3 years and i don’t recall this ever happening this before.

Then I looked around the map and saw that all of the worlds that were shielded before were shielded again, and I couldn’t access them at all. I turn the game off and came back today and the problem remains. I’m going to try re-doing a mission and retrieving a shield key to see if that fixes it, but I’ll be checking back here if it doesn’t work. I have noticed one major problem with this. Sound will not play, I have checked speakers and computer volume and game volume and they are all on, I cannot figure out why sound is by playing for me with this

Also, I think it would be a really cool addition to the game to add co-op matches, kinda like how BTD5 made a standard tower defense game co-op, like split the command nodes between players and play LAN or on a server and play with 2-3 players in a match, it would make the game a lot more appealing in my opinion and keep players playing longer

The mission that actually says Alternative Play is the Credits mission, from the main menu. There are also levels in the Alpha sector that change the rules up a bit. Though some are normal levels as well.

I’ve played the Flash versions of CW and they convinced me to drop the $15 on CW3. I’m only a couple of hours in but it’s been a blast so far.

    Keep up the great work!
